christian meyer is not new to us. some of you might remember his co-work with ‘mosermeyerdöring’ for the great ‘alaska.de’ soundtrack published here at kitty-yo, awarded as best filmmusic in 2002 by the union of german film critics! since then christian has worked with many german and european artists including ulrike haage, tanja ries, oliver doerell (dictaphone), and melaena (swod) and rudolf moser (einstürzenden neubauten). among many works for film christian meyer has composed for the highly acclaimed ‘droppingknowledge.org’ and ‘poem’ projects by ralf schmerberg and produced music for various contemporary dance companies.

from it’s conception, kitty-yo has enjoyed both a musical and personal affinity to the medium of film. in 2001 we released the sound track to the socially motivated drama ‘alaska.de. it was during the conceptual development stages of the cd-soundtrack that the paths of kitty-yo and christian meyer crossed for the first time. back then the emphasis was much more on stories with fragmental outlines. his current work, noticeably his 2007 solo release, still relates to short stories but ones that form more of a sequence in the mind’s eye. The story behind ‘within’ also began life on the road, inspired and shaped by the impressions of being on tour around the world. Christian Meyer’s new release is an album of withdrawal, of going home, of a stroll through realities, a dive into dream-worlds, a restless sprint between electronic rhythms and abstract soundscapes. It offers highly seductive and moving elements, which one almost fails to grasp on a first hearing.
